Golden Alexanders are short-lived perennials, but they are tough and long-blooming. While they prefer well-drained soils in full to part sun, they are quite adaptive to full shade conditions as well, and they will readily reseed when happy. It produces umbels of yellow flowers in the spring that attract many pollinators. The foliage and seedheads are also attractive.
Three (known) species of moths and butterflies use Golden Alexander as a host plant, including the Black Swallowtail butterfly. It is relatively unbothered by deer and rabbits, though they may nip at them when food is scarce.
