WHY NATIVES?

What's a native plant?

A native plant is one that occurs naturally in an area- without human introduction- and that has evolved to an area's specific climate, geology, and environmental conditions.

Native plants are the foundation of a healthy ecosystem. Native insects and animals have coevolved alongside them and depend on them for food and shelter. Without native plants, our native ecosystems would collapse.

Why do they matter?

Why should I plant them in my landscape?

As humans continue to develop land, we are removing more and more natural habitat. This is exacerbated when we replace native plants with non-native turf grass and ornamentals. An easy way to promote your local ecosystem and benefit biodiversity is to incorporate native plants into your landscape.
