Foamflower is a small, clump-forming perennial that spreads by stolons to form small colonies, making it a great ground cover for shady areas. It prefers moist soils with good drainage. In spring, it sends up beautiful bottlebrush-like inflorescences, with each individual flower resembling a pinkish-white star. The attractive foliage persists through the summer and can be semi-evergreen during warmer winters.
The spring-blooming flowers do not produce nectar but is still visited by pollinators for its pollen. It is typically avoided by deer and rabbits, though they may browse it when food is scarce.
