Coral Honeysuckle is our native honeysuckle vine-- not to be confused with the invasive Japanese Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica). Unlike it's non-native cousin, Coral Honeysuckle has orangey-red flowers that attract hummingbirds and is far more manageable (prune after flowering to control size when necessary). So long as temperatures don't drop too low, this vine acts as an (semi-)evergreen. This is a great vine to grow up an arbor, pergola, or porch railings.

Coral Honeysuckle prefers moist, well-drained, rich soils, but it can adapt to more average conditions as well. Likewise, it can tolerate some shade, but for best blooms, plant this vine in full sun. Aphids are a common pest for this plant, but they are not a big concern for established plants.

The flowers attract and are pollinated by bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and the resulting berries are enjoyed by songbirds. It is a larval host plant for the Spring Azure butterfly and the Snowberry Clearwing moth (aka Hummingbird moth). This plant has moderate deer resistance, and since its a vine, once it grows to a certain height they won't be able to reach it anyway!
