Dwarf Crested Iris is happiest in rich soils in part shade, though it can tolerate more sun provided it has adequate moisture. When planted in a suitable location, it will spread via rhizome to form small colonies, making it a great ground cover option.

Dwarf Crested Iris is an early nectar source for pollinators, including hummingbirds, and is pollinated by native bees. Similar to our non-native irises, it has a high deer resistance.
