Allegheny Stonecrop is our only native stonecrop. This perennial succulent prefers well-drained, drier soils, though it acclimates nicely in average garden soils as well. It's also adaptable with sunlight, handling full sun all the way to part shade, though the stems will not be quite as upright in shadier conditions. In late summer, it sends up flower stalks with pinkish-white flowers, blooming until the frost. Depending on sun exposure, the leaves can turn reddish-burgundy in the fall. The structure of these flowerheads is attractive and will persist through the winter.
Due to it's shorter stature, this is a great plant for front of the borders, providing textural interest with its attractive foliage. With its overall adaptable nature, it's an easy native perennial to add to a garden.
These are local ecotype plants (Amherst County, VA) that I propagated from seeds I collected myself. I'm thrilled to be offering this rare, unique Appalachian native plant!
