Bowman's Root is a long-lived, clump-forming perennial that produces beautiful white flowers in early summer. The flowers rest atop striking red stems and are complimented by attractive, dark green, serrated leaves. It prefers soils that remain moist and well-drained, but they can adapt to more average garden soils provided there is some shade. They can also handle a bit more sun so long as the soil stays moist. In late fall, the leaves turn a vibrant red color and make a striking display, especially when pared with plants with yellow fall leaves like Amsonia or Spicebush. It is slow to established, but well worth the wait!
