The American Bellflower is a showy addition for a moist, shady area. It is an annual or biennial, depending on when the seed germinated, and once it flowers and goes to seed, it's lifecycle is complete. However, if you plant it where it is happy, it will reseed itself. It can tolerate a little more sun in cooler climates, but it will appreciate some afternoon shade in our hot summer afternoons.

The flowers attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds, including the specialist Bellflower Resin bee (Megachile campanulae).
