Indigo Bush is a unique, beautiful, and aggressive native shrub. While it prefers moister soils, it is quite adaptable to drier locations as well. It spreads via suckers and seed to form thickets over time. These attribute make it unsuitable for smaller spaces, but it would be a good option for larger areas with ample room, especially those that have been recently disturbed. It would also be good for erosion control.
Indigo Bush attracts bees, butterflies, and wasps, and it serves as a larval host plant for several species of moths and butterflies. The seeds are enjoyed by birds, and it shows some resistance to deer.
