White Snakeroot is a vigorous wildflower that is often found on edges of forests. It prefers rich, moist soils in part sun, but it is quite adaptable to a range of conditions. The white flowers are long-lasting, blooming from late summer into the fall. It spreads via rhizomes and self-seeding, making it a great choice for naturalized areas, but perhaps too aggressive in a garden setting.

The abundant white flowers attract bees, wasps, moths, butterflies, and flies, providing a nectar source in the late summer and fall. The Clymene moth and Ruby Tiger moth both use this plant as a larval host plant, along with several species of native flies. This plant is toxic to mammals (including livestock), so it is rarely (if ever) browsed by deer or rabbits. Due to its toxicity, it is not recommended to plant White Snakeroot near fields where cattle graze.
